Hermitage Weir Upgrade

Project Location: Warwick, Qld

Client: Dep't of Housing and Public works

Project Value: <$1m

Schedule: Completed 2014

Project Description

This vital piece of water infrastructure supplies operational water to the Hermitage Research Station.  Significant flood events over the 2010-2013 period had damaged the existing weir.  There were concerns that with another significant rain event, the weir could fail.  The Department of Housing and Public Works turned to Bellwether and Osborn Lane Consulting Engineers to provide a design and construction solution to not only repair the weir, but improve it.

Bellwether Contribution

Bellwether acting in the role of Principal Contractor, worked with Osborn Lane to review and refine the most cost effective solution for the repair and betterment of the weir.  The final design solution involved upgrading the exiting concrete weir wall with structural concrete and installing gabion mattresses and rock protection across the downstream side of the weir.
