DRAINAGE
The Whittle St Drainage improvements works was commissioned by Lockyer Valley Regional Council to reduce severe overland flow affecting properties along Whittle and Hill Streets at Gatton. The project involves the construction of over 400m of new stormwater pipes, pits and over flow paths to capture the water and divert it into Lake Apex.
The project required careful and considered stagging to complete the works within the 16 week program whilst maintain residents and community needs including 24hrs access to properties. As the new pipe network flows into Lake Apex, erosion and sediment control was also of the highest priority to maintain the water quality of the lake.
To install the new stormwater network, a 34m section of asbestos water main needed to be removed and replaced with a new PVC main whilst ensuring minimum supply disruption to local residents and businesses.
Prior to commencing works on site, Bellwether attended several design workshops with QUU. The outcome was to isolate in stages a non-essential section of the water main for the duration of the project rather than constructing a new main. This early contractor involvement facilitated a design which met QUU’s approvals and significantly reduced cost to council.
Once on site, The Bellwether team engaged with local stakeholders to ensure the project was delivered with minimal disruption. This was achieved through a strong on-site presence and regular contact with the community.
