As part of the NDRRA Flood Betterment Works, this project involved three stages of work, including an upgrade to a 900m section of Depot Road in Warwick, an upgrade to a 1.5km section of Merivale Street in Allora and the reconstruction of an existing dilapidated causeway along Pidgeon Road in Goomburra.
Southern Regional Downs Council needed an experienced Principal Contractor to complete all aspects of this construction project to bring the roads up to modern design standards.
As the Principal Contractor, the Bellwether team managed all aspects of the construction of this project.
This included an upgrade of unsealed road to seal Merivale St, minor drainage works on Pidgeon Rd, extension of floodway and rock protection and an upgrade of Depot Road to adhere to modern design standards.
Drawing on relevant experience and utilising the best team, Bellwether introduced a number of innovative alternative design solutions to streamline the project and achieve a 10% cost saving for the client.
These solutions included changes to batter profiles and drainage designs, thereby reducing retaining wall extents and further exploration of existing pavement profiles, resulting in a reduced pavement thickness.
