Capella Resource Recovery Centre lies on council land 2km outside of Capella. Historically it has expanded its landfill encroaching on private property and on state road reserve. Capella transfer station lies on state road reserve and on stock route.

Council requires to conduct rehabilitation works on Capella old landfill and construct a new transfer station on Council owned land.

Bellwether constructed the rehabilitation and upgrade of the existing Landfill at Capella for CHRC. The works included:

Relocation and reconstruction of a waste transfer facility which includes a retaining wall and collection bin slab, access road pavements and seals, hardstand construction
Levelling and burying existing waste
Capping the existing landfill with 25,000m3 of soil
Topsoil and revegetation of the site
Site fencing and relocation of existing infrastructure

What we delivered

As Principal Contractor Bellwether has integrated the project in accordance with the project scope and specifications as provided by Central Highlands Regional Council.

We provided value engineering and advise through the construction including:

Sourcing of suitable materials for capping and topsoil
Revegetation advise and value adding
Retaining wall design modifications

We also provided return to local community by engaging with local suppliers, subcontractors and the use of the facilities of Capella township.
