The existing underpass formed an important function in the cycle network connecting the Brisbane CBD with the Western suburbs. The eastern (river) side the underpass connects with the Bicentennial Bikeway. The Bicentennial Bikeway connects with Brisbane’s two largest trip attractors, the Brisbane CBD and University of Queensland (UQ) and is one of the busiest bikeways in Brisbane. The existing Land Street underpass is not wide enough to accommodate future growth expected in the network at this location and safely accommodate current pedestrian and cyclist movements. Council aims to address this constructing a second underpass between the Bicentennial Bikeway and Land Street at Toowong
