The government has announced major funding for the $5 million first stage of the Captain Cook Highway widening project along with other critical road infrastructure upgrades and improvement.
Mareeba-Dimbulah Road is a 55.726km long road and provides access between the two townships Mareeba to Dimbulah. The road is also a connection which links Kennedy Highway (Cairns – Mareeba) and the Burke Developmental Road (Normanton – Dimbulah) and provides a key farm and cattle freight route between Normanton and Cairns.
It provides a significant link between the Coral Sea, on the east and the Gulf of Carpentaria on the west and all communities in between.

The project progressed to construction phase. This program of safety upgrades will deliver significant long-term improvements to traffic flow and safety at key intersections.
