The existing pavements along Juliet Street is a high-volume trafficked section of road which currently displays significant pavement failures which have occurred over time. Council has conduct geotechnical investigations to obtain information on the existing subgrades and pavement.
From the investigations, a final pavement design option was determined to provide a long-term pavement design life.
Council required a contractor for the works including the milling and asphalting of the existing road surface.
The works were completed in stages. The first stage started on the southern lanes in Juliet Street. All traffic was switched to the northern lanes whilst this work occurred with single lanes in each direction and at reduced speeds.
Traffic was then switched to the southern lanes when construction began on the northern lanes in the same two-way traffic configuration. Traffic control and detours were in place for the duration of the project.
The scheduling of this work was dependent upon weather conditions and was completed on time. The plant and equipment used on site kept noise and dust disturbances to a minimum.
