The previous T-intersection was reaching capacity and the new roundabout will be able to cater for higher volumes of traffic as well as improving road safety. The construction of the roundabout at the Milton and Archibald streets intersection will also be complimented with new trunk drainage infrastructure to improve flood immunity in the area.
MRC required the construction of a single lane roundabout at the Milton Street and Archibald Street Intersection. The scope of works for the project included the construction of the roundabout and associated works, relocation of underground services, water main relocation and new trunk drainage infrastructure.
Initially, crews started the drainage installation works in the road reserve on Milton Street, followed by Archibald Street and then the roundabout installation roadworks.

Construction of roundabout and drainage infrastructure
This project involved traffic changes in place for eight weeks. Archibald Street was temporarily closed between Webster Street and Milton Street, including the intersection. Residents living in this area had access to their property during this time.
North and southbound traffic travelling on Milton Street accessed Archibald Street via the Archibald Service Road.
Traffic travelling east along Archibald Street was detoured onto Webster Street and Clements Street to access Milton Street.
There were some noise and dust disturbances as expected due to the various plant and equipment on site however appropriate controls were in place to minimise impact.
