Transport for NSW is planning for a safe and efficient connection between the South Batemans Bay Link Road and the Princes Highway. The proposal includes a new roundabout on the Princes Highway and new two lane road connecting to the existing South Batemans Bay Link Road at Glenella Road. The project will take pressure off Beach Road, relieve congestion in the Batemans Bay CBD and support future growth.
Given the steep and heavily forested nature of the terrain, limited access to the site, critical existing services, and the potential need for large retaining structures, Transport for NSW required a qualified and experienced professional services contractor undertake a constructability assessment to determine the feasibility of each strategic design option and inform further design and construction planning for the project.
Bellwether collaborated with the TfNSW project team to identify, assess and make recommendations to overcome the complex constructability issues during the strategic options analysis, completing a thorough review of the designs and available project information. Based on Bellwether’s in depth project knowledge and insight, TfNSW extended the engagement to include facilitation of combined constructability and health and safety in design (HSiD) workshops with key project stakeholders to help with selection of the preferred strategic design option, and finalisation of the concept design.
Bellwether’s comprehensive assessment of the project has optimised the constructability of the proposed design to ensure efficient and safe project construction and maintenance and will in turn support TfNSW achieve its overall project objectives and project timeframes..
